Description

These evidence-based learning (EBL) lessons are based on classroom practice that has been proven, by research, to maximise thinking, learning and attainment. From an extensive review of educational research, we identified the eight key classroom thinking and learning skills that were common across these research papers. We named these eight key skills “EBL skills”.

EBL skills have been proven by research to maximise learning because they combine the most productive thinking skills with the most effective learning behaviours. Each of our evidence-based learning lessons uses the English curriculum as a framework through which the eight EBL skills are delivered.

Teachers also have the opportunity to add to their own skill set or refresh their existing skills with our five-minute CPD activity, based on one of the EBL skills used in this lesson.

The skills in bold below are the EBL skills developed in this Red Riding Hood lesson. Click on each skill to learn more about that skill.

Teachers – This Red Riding Hood Direction Lesson Develops Key Skills “Turn Right Red Riding Hood” Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I’ve just discovered an excellent KS2 resource that uses directions to Grandma’s house to teach English and evidence-based learning skills. It’s called “Turn Right Red Riding Hood” and students will find the activities really engaging.

Students Write Directions and Assess Peers

There are great collaborative activities where students write directions using bossy verbs and fronted adverbials. They also write directions individually and assess a peer’s work. This boosts English and assessment abilities.

    Creative Tasks Like Tweeting Directions

Some of the creative tasks include explaining bossy verbs to a peer and writing tweet-length directions to Grandma’s house. This consolidates new knowledge in a fun way.

5 Min CPD Links Peer Assessment and Metacognition

The 5 minute CPD shows how peer assessment aids metacognition. Teachers are then guided to explain this link to colleagues. This builds expertise around evidence-based practice.

I Would Give This Versatile Resource 5 Stars

From tweeting to peer assessment, this Red Riding Hood resource develops a wide range of skills. I would give “Turn Right Red Riding Hood” 5 stars for teaching English creatively while expanding teacher knowledge.
